Trimming a dogs nails: Best place to get it done?

Where is the best place to get my dogs nails trimmed.

The vet, the groomers or a dog kennel.

Also, what are the price ranges of these typically

(Cutting my dogs nails myself is -NOT- an option, Her nails are black and I have already had to take her once to the vet to get silver nitrate because they were too short.)Trimming a dogs nails: Best place to get it done?
Vet can do it but it will be stupid expensive.

Never heard of a dog kennel doing it so wouldn't try that.

The groomer is the best bet. Also with black nails they often will use a Dremel type grinder instead of trimmers. This way if they do happen to hit the quick, it automatically cauterizes itself.

Most nail trims usually start at around $15 and will depend on the method, the size of the dog sometimes and if they dog is very hard to handle there might be a surcharge for that.

You can do this at home with the Dremel. There is an expensive and less powerful version being marketed right now. Heard it was not impressive.Trimming a dogs nails: Best place to get it done?
The veterinarian is the best place to get your dog's nails trimmed (but also the most expensive).

The groomer would be the next best and probably the least expensive if you get it done at the same time you have the dog bathed and groomed.

A dog kennel would not be my choice for getting nails trimmed for my dog because the caretakers in a kennel at often not thoroughly trained nor are they qualified to trim a pet's nails.

There is a commercial product out called pet-trim that uses a rotating emery board and a safety guard. This would permit you to trim your own pet's nails without the risk of trimming too close.

Good luck whichever option you choose.
You should have begun trimming nails from Day 1 of getting the puppy. So what if the nails are black most breeds are.If you are walking your dog on the pavements that will wear down the nails so you do not need to file them. You are paying money for a vet, groomer so its up to you.Have a good look at the nails and they are most likely not as long as you think unless you are not walking your Dog on the pavements.
When your dog goes for a check-up at the vet ask the vets assistant or the vet (whoever is checking your dog), if they could cut your dogs nails, they usually do, I think it is included in your dogs check-up fee.
They all should be equally qualified. Its not a terribly complicated procedure.

Its hard to guess the prices. You can call your places and ask.

We get it done at the vet because its the closest to us and is only $10
Vets. Even though it costs more, it's worth it.

And you're very sensible not attempting it yourself. There ought to be more people like you out there.
i would get it done at the vet just to make sure the person trimming them knows what they are doing
The best place and cheapest is Petco for $10
petsmart i pay aound $11.00.
