When an iron nail is placed into a solution of copper sulfate?

no reaction occurs

iron (II) chloride is formed

iron copper sulfate is formed

the iron replaces the copperWhen an iron nail is placed into a solution of copper sulfate?
Fe (nail) + CuSO4 --%26gt; FeSO4 + Cu

it stands to reason that the iron replaces the copper. There definitely is a reaction; there is no chloride, so iron CHLORIDE cannot form. There is no reason to think that iron copper sulfate is formed. When an iron nail is placed into a solution of copper sulfate?
theiron replaces the copper in solution and copper precipitates
In the reactivity series Iron is placed aboce copper. It is the chemical property of metal that when a more reactive metal is placed in the salt solution of a less reactive metal it replaces the less reactive metal so iron will replace copper.

Fe + CuSO4-------Cu + FeSO4

On the other hand if we see the RHS of the equation their would be no reaction because Cu is less reactive than Fe.

Cu + FeSO4------No Reaction
